This is one of those rare anthologies where there was not a single story that I disliked (although I was a bit disappointed by Angela Carter's contribution, but I think that's mostly because I had just finished reading her spectacular "Nights at the Circus" and my expectations were too high). There's a nice mix of really weird stories and more conventional stories. I felt like these stories were chosen specifically based on what I would be inclined to want to read. I love speculative fiction. I love when speculative fiction is used to explore various issues- particularly gender issues. I love when speculative fiction is written by women. I told my boyfriend about some of these stories and he kept thinking I was searching them out online rather than just having an anthology because many of them were so specific to my interests. That said, I don't think my interests in this regard are really so unique, so if the idea of feminist speculative fiction appeals to you, you will probably like this book.

That said, there weren't any stories in here that were so inspiringly excellent that I immediately wanted to track down everything the author ever wrote- that's why I'm giving it four rather than five stars. The Grammarian's Five Daughters by Eleanor Arnason was close though.

I am very grateful for the role that the VanderMeers play in fostering the art of SciFi and Fantasy. I have never been disappointed in their work and Sisters is not an exception
This amazing anthology is a must-have for speculative fictions fans.
My favorites include
"The Screwfly Solution" - a gripping tale of scientific intervention flipped on its head.
"Gestella" - a heart-rending story of a werewolf and her pack-master.

These stories from the masters of the genre will make you laugh, cry and shudder-sometimes all at once.
Entertaining but not earth shattering
Wonderful collection of stories that will expand your horizons, challange your assumptions of the way things are and blow your mind.

If you're interested in feminism, speculative fiction, or both, this is a must-have.

This collection is the ultimate example of the breadth and depth speculative fiction can achieve as serious literature. Every one of these stories conveys a literary message that could not be conveyed without its fantastical premise. The stories are different in style, tone, length, era, and genre, providing a broad survey of the world of speculative fiction. There are no poorly developed characters, no mindless battle scenes, no kludgy jargon—none of the failings of mainstream and pulp, but with all the inventiveness and creativity.

I plan to buy this book for every woman in my life, but especially for every male science fiction fan.
